The order of operations
SEO fails when the order is wrong: content published on a broken foundation is invisible; links pointed at weak pages evaporate. Foundation → Structure → Content → Authority. Always.
Foundation: technical health
- Crawlable and indexable: XML sitemap submitted, robots.txt sane, no accidental noindex.
- One canonical version of every page; redirects consolidated (single-hop 301s).
- Core Web Vitals passing on mobile: LCP under 2.5s, CLS near zero, responsive interactions.
- HTTPS everywhere, no mixed content.
Structure: the intent map
List every query a buyer might search, group by intent, and assign each group to exactly one page. Informational queries get guides; transactional queries get service pages. Two pages targeting the same intent split each other’s strength — merge them.
On-page: legibility
- Title tags that earn the click: keyword + benefit, under ~60 characters.
- One H1 per page matching the page’s intent; H2s that outline the answer.
- Internal links with descriptive anchors from high-authority pages to money pages.
- Schema: Organization, Service, FAQ, Breadcrumb — meaning, on a plate.
Content: deserving to rank
For every target query, ask: "Would a buyer bookmark this?" Answer the query completely in the first screen, then go deeper than anyone else — specifics, examples, steps, tools. Publishing cadence matters less than answer quality per page.
Authority: the compounding layer
Links and mentions from real publications, directories, partners and associations. Digital PR and genuinely useful resources earn these; link schemes rent them at gunpoint. Never build the fragile kind.
Measurement
Search Console is truth: queries, pages, positions, clicks. Watch leading indicators (impressions growth, query count) before lagging ones (rank). Report outcomes in enquiries and revenue — position #1 for a query nobody buys is a trophy with no cash value.
