Creative is the targeting now

As Meta’s delivery AI absorbs more audience decisions, creative has become the primary lever you control. The accounts that win test systematically; the accounts that lose make one good ad and ride it into the ground.

The matrix

Test across three dimensions, changing one at a time:

  • Angle — the reason to care (outcome, problem, proof, offer).
  • Hook — the first 3 seconds / first line (question, bold claim, pattern interrupt, testimonial).
  • Format — static, carousel, short video, UGC-style.

Running a sprint

  1. Pick one angle. Produce 3 hooks × 2 formats = 6 ads.
  2. Launch to the same audience with equal budget; let each ad clear ~2× your target CPA in spend.
  3. Kill by rule, not mood. Anything past the spend threshold without a qualified result is off.
  4. Promote the winner into your evergreen campaign; dissect why it won before the next sprint.

Benchmarks to watch

  • Hook rate (3s views / impressions) — tells you if the first second works.
  • Hold rate (thruplays / impressions) — tells you if the story works.
  • Cost per qualified lead — tells you if any of it mattered.

Fatigue management

Watch frequency (cold ~5, retargeting ~3) and a declining hook rate curve. Refresh before performance craters: new hook on the winning body, new format of the winning angle. Evolution, not revolution.
